Also remember that many older capacitor values, like .05 mfd., are not commonly available: .047 would replace .05. In the vast majority of circuits where paper caps were used, pick the modern cap closest to the value of the old cap. In reality, the old caps were rated within 20% high or low from the marked value, and .047 is only about 6% off from .05, and besides, the original could have been off from .05 and could have been as low as .04 or as high as .06 when it was made.
