There would be difficulties, if the tuner is digitally controlled by a micro that also receives the remote control signals. These control signals are usually serial bitstreams, and would be hard to fake. What I'd do is just put the VCR elsewhere in the room, and run a coax cable from the tapped IF to the 45MHz FM radio.
