Were turn-ins and trade-ins kept mainly to salvage parts? The radio/TV guy in my home town would periodically sell off working sets like that, during the town's annual "dollar days." That's where I got my very first radio, an old Silvertone console. The market for such things is limited, though. I always imagined that most things traded in to him eventually made their way to the dump.
