Ah the gutting a good TV to replace the gust with something inferior.... My grandfather did something similar to his KV-1901 TV/Betamax console combo. First the beta deck was replaced with a JC Penny "3 head" VHS, put on cut 2x4's inside the space where the SL-6200 was from the factory, a nice hole drilled in the plastic drop cover to let the IR remote signal through. Then later when the TV portion went out, the local TV guy said "the tube blew up just junk it" but i remember what the problem was black bars and hum so bad filter cap" anyway he pulled out the monitor section and it was replaced by a "Teknika" 19" set that was a raffle prize....
Kind of wish i had that Sony now...
