This is my plan. This was a rather uncommon model... only ~800 or so were sold (~750 for 91 and ~50 for 92. VW sold so few cars in those years they almost pulled out of the US market in 93).
I'm going to hear from my insurance company tomorrow... hopefully I hear from theirs too. I've been looking over craigslist to find one.
Regardless I will buy the wreck back and take out the motor and suspension. VWs are built like legos... if worse comes to worse I can find a clean gasser with a bad motor and swap the diesel in. The wiring all plugs into the back of the fuse block so it's literally plug and play.
I don't know what she was up to. I do know she was going too fast and neither she nor her boyfriend in the front seat were paying attention for at least 3 seconds before the crash.

I'm going to keep an eye on the teen as she drives by... if I spy her running the stop signs more I think we'll have a little chat

I don't claim to be the best driver in the world but I am 27 and have never been in an accident worse than a bumper bump.
