In answer to your question, yes, I certainly hope the IKEA system (and any variation of it if/when it comes to the US) has a much better audio system than today's flat screens. My Insignia 19" set has two 3" speakers for stereo sound, but they don't sound much better than ordinary TV speakers since the ones in my TV are mounted in back of the cabinet, and fire back to the wall rather than to my ears. There are stereo audio outputs on the side of the set for connection to an external stereo system; I'd use them, but since the mute button on the TV remote does not work with these outputs, or for that matter with the earphone jack, I have not bothered connecting the TV to my bookshelf stereo system. Doesn't matter to me anyway, as most of what I watch on TV (the news and DVDs) does not lend itself well to stereo sound; besides, I am practically deaf in one ear, so the stereo effect would be lost on me.
