Yes, the platter is "supposed" to lift right off with the 45 spindle in the up
position. The upper platter isolated from the inner belt driven platter
by rubber grommets and after 45 years they are usually stuck pretty good.
You may have to remove the whole assembly by loosening the allen screw
underneath the spindle/platter bearing. Then you can see underneath and
pry gently at the grommet points. Gently, the inner sub platter supports can be
bent with too much pressure.
