I keep having to remember that Diesel. Most of the little "Jellybean" sets I get seem to include a 12VDC inverter of some sort, but have gotten some before without it.
I make it a point when I goto the swap meets to go through those big TANGLES of wall warts looking for 12-14VDC wall warts of around 1000mA. I get two or three of 'em for like five bucks and just keep 'em around for stuff that shows up without one....or to use one on a workbench. That barrel connector is quite generic and pretty easy to just eyeball.
I usually keep around a collection of 6V, 9V and 12v wall warts....and even a few of those crappy little "bunch of voltages and connectors" ones. Those actually tend to be REAL dirty though and not much good for anything but a workbench. I'll sometimes use one of those in a "variac" fashion and bring something up SLOWLY from the 3V setting up to the rated voltage if I'm iffy about polarity or the device burning up.
