Angry Cheapo Venturer CD1282 boombox

I have one of those, which I picked on the sidewalk this past summer.
Everything was working except the cassette player (worn head or
something) and I was happy as the CD transport and electronics seemed
to be fairly good at playing badly scratched discs.

Recently, the sound became distorted so I suspected some busted
capacitors (Chinese made unit from 2001). I opened it up to look at
the boards, and I found a maze of units interconnected with short
ribbon cables and the like. A real monster! I proceeded to lift
the main board, which hosts the power supply filters, amplifiers and
CD electronics, in order to count the capacitors. I has to undo a
flat cable (this one not soldered) going to the optical module. I did take
some pictures, with the intent of making a list of capacitors, and
then proceeded to reassemble the whole thing.

Unfortunately, this killed the CD function, all I seem to be getting now
is some action from the CD transport, followed by a big E on the
display. One hour wasted in making a useable CD player totally useless,
with no justification in investing more time or money.

Long live old tube or discrete transistor radios!
