A sony trinitron socket was usually not supplied with most CRT testers.
Maybe because it's too easy to "strip" the cathodes using the usual clean-rejuvenate functions.
I did try making an adapter for my Heathkit CRT tester, which had a "clean" function using 120 volts DC similar to your method and it was current-limited using 120 volt pygmy lamps (3 watt, S6 bulb, candelabra base).
The method to prevent arcing was to apply this voltage to a "cold cathode" then gradually increase the filament volts until a soft glow from the lamps and the meter climbed to 3 (scaled 1-10, not corresponding to any current value) then you did this for 15 seconds or so. I have noticed that keeping it "on" longer and the meter started to fall again. I sucessfully restored a few Sony and Panasonic CRTs this way.
