For filaments MOST the time

7 pin min. 3&4
9 pin min. 4&5
12 pin compactron 1&12
I dont remember the older ones.

Make a continuity tester mount sockets in a box, wire
the fillament pins in parallel. Use 6v from batteries or
wall wart in series with a 6v lamp.
Plug in tube- if lamp lights fillament OK
DO NOT do 1v radio tubes !!

In set series test. Meter on AC, lead to chassis ground, set ON.
Probe each fil. pin. When you get 110v one one pin but not the
other the tube is opened......

There are other ways to find bad tubes but it gets
a bit long, maybe another time.

As far as tube testers go we never used one. It was for
the customers. Biggest money maker in the shop.
