A friend of mine goes to a lot of estate sales and he called me yesterday to say that he found a nice old tv. He emailed me a photo and said that it was still there at closing Monday and I could probably get it Tuesday morning which was going to be 1/2 price day.
I went over and took a look and bought this beauty for $27.50 Cabinet is in mint condition. The estate sale was probably from a widow, because there were no men's clothing items in the sale, the ownership of the home was in a trust, there is no one listed at that address in the phone book. I suspect the widow was in a retirement or nursing home for some years.
Grill cloth is like new. Hardly a scratch on on the cabinet and I do not believe the old folks were smokers. Looks like it was waxed and polished on a regular basis. It has HV but vertical is out so it is only producing a horizontal line. IT's a 19" model and the chassis is a KCS49A but the model number label has peeled off. It appears to be the model 9T79 "Northampton" I have not tested the 19AP4 yet because it is still sitting in my van. I suspect the crt will probably be OK because it is displaying a Horizontal line so we have HV which is a good sign.
The photo is taken in the former owner's living room exactly where it must have sat for many years. I believe this is a 1951 model because that is the date Sams folder 122-8 has on it.
Not often any more that you find a pristine gem like this. Should be an easy restoration. So many of the sets I get have crappy cabinets and take a lot of effort to restore. It's refreshing to get a nice one for once
