It's hard to guess auction results in advance, and it's hard to play "what if" after the auction is over. "That guy," whoever he was, had ample financing and wasn't shy about paying for what he wanted. The two prewar GE sets sold for a combined total of $19,000. The third Clifton went for $250, but if you or I had joined the bidding, it might have taken much more to convince him to drop out.
