I'm surprised the 8BP4 is still that bright!
Why is it so blue?
I had an eight inch Bakelite Motorola 9T8 that I bought for $15 in 1957. I used it for two years whenever I wanted to watch a program if my parents were watching something else. It started to dim and bloom and I had to replace the HV caps due to leakage within a year.
When I moved out in 1959, I took it with me and used it as my daily driver until 1963 when I was drafted. Two years later I pulled it from storage and used it until I bought a Sears/Toshiba color TV in 1966. The only other problems I ever had were a couple of small tubes.
I kept it on top of the color set and watched the space shots on two networks at the same time. The CRT became very gassy and dim, and the CRT was no longer carried by any of the distributors, so I tossed the set in the trash just before I moved back to Tennessee in 1971.
I used the already 8 year old set for 14 years, although it was in storage for two of those. I'd say I got my money's worth out of it.
