Locals on kijiji complain all the time about respondents who don't show up or email back. The result is often a formula-1 race to get anything that's posted. I have lost out on at least three FREE items because I couldn't get there fast enough for the lister's liking. The worst incident was when I responded to an ad for a vacuum cleaner; the moron actually offered to hold it for me, but then told me that another guy wanted it and asked me how close I am to his location. I was some distance away, but said that I was able to leave right away. He then stopped answering my emails.
