IF coils can go bad, like anything else. I had a sparton where that was the case. It had a unique center tapped secondary that I could not find a replacement for. Luckily, only the primary was bad, so I melted the wax on that coil, pulled it off and swapped it with a similar sized primary from another 460 of coil. Right away, it worked! The old primary was corroded open in many places. Maybe a humid day at the sparton factory allowed some moisture to be trapped that made that coil go open 80 years later.
