There were a lot of neat features that some cars had that were never advertised. If you smacked the hood ornament cat in the nose on a late '70s Mercury Cougar, the grille tilted inward. It was supposed to prevent grille damage in the event of a collision. Of course, if it hits the hood ornament, you're pretty much screwed anyway
