Y'know, I've thought about that before. My parents gave me an entertainment center about 5 years ago along with a TV. It was in perfect shape, but I didn't want to give up my RCA Colortrak 2000 console.....so I ended up disassembling it and repurposing all of the wood for projects.....everything from a tube amp base, to using my band saw to cut moldings for this and that.
In fact, the last piece of it (the VCR tape corner cabinet), I'd used for a chemical shelf by my workbench for years. Just got some new cabinets for my work area that are 1950s hard rock maple, so that piece is out to the curb as I type this.
This one was pressboard photo finish junk, but there's a lot of Amish made and good wood stuff out there. Unless people repurpose the monstrosities, they're as good as landfill.....
