I think that set was built to accommodate the early Sony color VTR's.
In the later 60's, Sony had Motorola built, B/W monitors to accommodate their B/W VTR's.
IIRC, the Sony VTR's were reel-to-reel.

Makes sense. I did a VERY short stretch at Sony factory service
when the Betas came out. Thats where I saw a few. Saw some
strange stuff they made. even made a desktop calculator. It
had a big clock spring looking thing that was a delay line.
Polaroid had a bunch of them, I guess they kept them cause
they were used to them.
Twas also when the ICFC-660 & 770 clock radios were big.
I would put a clock in every 10 mn sometimes 20+ a day before
moving on to other things.
