OK - I see what you mean. I have come across alot of stretcher bases that are bolted on. What you could do is keep your eyes open in a thrift store for an old coffee table or something and set it on that. Try to match up the size and legs. Or just use the legs. Drill a hole in the leg - shove a steel rod in there - drill a hole in the cabinet and glue the whole mess in. Stain or Laquer to match. Use the stetcher for additional support underneath. Maybe use the back of an old wooden chair for the oval. Just don't move it around once it is assembled. Or get as many pictures of the base as you can and talk to a furniture restorer if you really want make it nice. Experiment. Have nothing to lose. It would look 100 percent better anfd you would probably fool alot of people.
