Was it your first attempt at cutting glass? Mucked up my first crack as well until I got the hang of using/oiling the cutter and producing the "ripping silk" sound that indicates a clean cut that will break properly.

Obviously you'd have to cut the mirror from the non-coated side to get it to work.

I think all the projection sets I've seen may have been DLP, that could explain it.

Well, in all fairness, you didn't exactly have mirrors for a projection set to worry about at that time either...
