Did you ever notice that Philco , never used metal tubes or tuning eye tubes.
They were the last firm to switch to octal based tubes. When they did, the tube shield bases restricted the use of anything but the "G" types. How many Philco radios did you run across, that had the bases butchered to use a larger diameter replacement tube?
They were the only firm to use UX based tubes, as late as the 1942 model year, even in Military equipment.
