You say it changes only for the first few seconds and not at all (gradually) after that, as I understand what you wrote.

You didn't say what model you have. Some later model solid state sets had automatic white balance. Once it was set up, the circuit automatically adjusted for CRT aging. If that is what you have, the change in the first few seconds is normal as the circuit adjusts for the particular CRT in your set.

Edit: sometimes if all three guns are mismatched, you could see two distinct changes in color in the first few seconds; then stable after that.
