The pointer is really thin and easily damaged or lost. As soon as you reassemble the radio, you'll find it.
BTW, the set is a little later than 1934, Probably mid-1935, as it uses some metal tubes.
I have the same set and the schematic shows all UX base tubes. Mine has the metal tubes, as well. I always considered the styling rather repulsive. It still was a great buy for $27.95. Built by Wells-Gardner.
