Well that seems to be the problem, thank you!
It's a 4 legged momentary switch so I don't know what the contact pattern is but nothing seemed to happen across the open contacts when I pressed it.
I finally just pressed it really hard and it came to life.
It plays a tape fine but the Eject button also has to be pressed hard to work so it needs some new switches.
