It took us a few trys and we finally tried a new flyback and tripler together. When the tripler was disconnected the flyback would act normal. Once connected the tripler would short immediatly. In my case, the trippler failed with the usual failure... insulation breakdown. it started with a slight HV leak (hissing) for about a month before the all of a sudden failure. it is amazing that it has lasted this long, this particular failure was a big issue with these sets as far back as the 80's.
