Well--there was no signal, I just lit it off in the van--to see how the tube looked. it does sometimes have colored snow--not sure how it would look on a good signal, but I suspect it would look pretty good. I KNOW the tuner is pretty dirty--but could be cleaned up and work fine. It has plenty of brightness.
Not sure the VCX tube is real long-lived---but my own experience with 995 sets using it was they hold up pretty well. The 100% in-line used in the 809, 815 and the Zeniths did NOT hold up nearly as well--they were dying in the late 1980's...
