I have been through the whole 3A3 set of issues. If the thing has been a problem in the past, and it is now; then it will be again. I recommend replacement highly. If the socket has been piece-milled together, I imagine you hear a slight hissing in the HV cage, but you can't see it as the socket is hidden inside the insulating cup.

This can/will give interference on your raster. Nothing drastic, but it will be there. You may not be having any of these issues. Either way I say don't repair a HV rectifier socket; replace it. I did mine and it made all the difference in the world. I cut out the series resistor soldered between two of the pins that is known to burn in two, but mine is a Zenith and they recommended removal. Perhaps not on RCA...
