I remember reading about that!
The owner of the home failed to notify the fuel oil supplier, that they converted to Gas heat. They were on the keep-full plan, where the supplier would top-off the tank on a regular basis.
Whoes fault! That's a nasty smell to get rid of, even with a small quanity.
