Hi DSD-13,
the Grundig VCRs from that age have a small NiCd battery, soldered on the processor board. This battery needs to be replaced, else you won´t have any fun with that vcr. Then if there were orange or dark red cylindrical capacitors stamped ROE in the VCR, they have also to be replaced, often they were cracked or they may explode. And last but not least check and replace the belts in the drive.
