I was trying to do a little research on the transformer needed. It seems like an output transformer intended for a battery output tube would meet the plate load of the output tube used. An output transformer from an AA5 is too low of an impedance. The proper transformer would be one from a portable type radio that uses a 3V4, 3Q5, 1A5 etc. Not perfect, but close.
Works OK on my Coronado farm radio, that uses a 33 output tube. The radio originally used a magnetic high impedance speaker.
