Beginners Luck?
I was trying to get close to original finish of limed white oak. I covered the oak veneer with white wash pickling stain ( water based ). Let dry for a minute or so and then wiped the finish with mineral spirits to only let the wood grain depressions retain the white stain. I covered small areas at a time. After I got the white wash to look the way I thought it should, I stained the cabinet the color English Oak ( water base ). The stains are made by Minwax. After a week of drying I sprayed a number of coats of lacquer on.
