Well it sure can't hurt to give that a try, is there a particular silicone caulk that I should use? Same stuff to use on the flyback? I am thinking of doing the flyback as well.
The cap is pretty filthy with a black sooty substance, some of it has cleaned off but not at all of it. But I don't see a track or haven't found it yet

May want to check the cap against it's listed value on the schematic before you order to be sure.
Those are the diodes. I'd order 2 and wire them in series for the focus rect...That way if anything arcs to the focus line it won't take out the diode as easily.
IIRC last time I did a fly doughnut the customer wanted me to use Permatex gray from the auto parts store...I recommend any 'sensor safe' silicone caulk (other types may contain acid that can corrode wires overtime).
Rubbing alcohol, glass cleaner and Goof off (a flamable liquid cleaner)are my go-to for HV cage cleaning. Goof off can dissolve plastics and some paints so I tend to reserve it for metal and as a nuclear option for some issues.
