The Video 8 format lasted 20 years. Over 17 player/recorders were introduced. Stand alone decks were available. 1800 movies were available from the various movie studios. Sony was the main producer but Cannon had products as well. There may have been more. I have over 100 Video 8 movies and 2 player/recorders at the moment. I had 2 other player/recorders which were disposed of. On EBay today, many products are available.

Was it as big as Beta or VHS? No. Beta and VHS were the staple, but folks who had Mini 8 camcorders found the compact playback devices with LCD screens handy. I took my player on flights and watched movies. The products were not rare, they were available where ever audio/video equipment were sold.
