All the plastic on the yokes do that over time, nothing violent about it. Bob Andersen has a couple videos showing how to rebuild them. One he did out of some PVC and as I recall the other from a yogurt container.

You might be thinking of someone else.. I built mine from scratch using styrene stock sheet and plastic solvent.
