enough play to remove it without undue right and the ability to slip an HV probe under it are needed but It should probably be tighter than you make it sound. You could get arcing which will cause noise in the picture and could cause damage to the CRT in the worst case.
In some cases the metal prongs get bent out of shape or pull part way out of the suction cup, in other cases the suction cup hardens in a peeled back position and goes bad. If you think you can fix the original go for it, otherwise probably good to scrap a BPC and harvest the suction cup and HV lead and use what you need for the roundy.
