I scanned Peter Yanczer's Mechanical TV camera construction manual. A copy is now located on the ETF website at:

The photocell VTS4085S mentioned in the manual may be difficult or impossible for purchase. I found one site where they claim to have 37 and wanted buyer to submit quote/bid for quantity needed. They seemed to be a supplier to Aerospace or large firms.
The following photocell Photonic Detectors Inc # 1541-80A was suggested by a friend as a possible working alternative.

They are only 33 cents each but shipping is $8.00 I purchased 12 so my price was about $12 for the 12 including shipping. I have not done any testing on suitability for this camera. If anyone is serious about building a camera I would sell one for a dollar.
