Just as a follow up, I had the same convergence problem as you. I only wanted to point out the convergence procedure is different from later sets. That is that dynamic convergence adustment in the CTC5 interacts dramatically with the static convergence. There is a lot of interaction.
I found that when I got to the point where I wide divergence I could not correct, I found the best thing was start again by centralizing the convergence inductors and potentiometers. And then adhere closely to the CTC5 instructions. Eventually you will find it. Patience counts.
