Kevin, you are correct about the 1077 B&K. The vertical sync signal is derived from off of the main power transformer. The horizontal sync signal is derived from a 189 KHz crystal osc and a divide by 12 divider which equals 15,750 Hz. At one time, the 189 KHz crystal in my 1077 developed a cold solder joint and the 189 KHz signal was missing. The horizontal oscillator kept running, but it varied all over the place in frequency. Nudge the crystal and the horizontal frequency snapped into sync.
