I started school in 1950 in Ft. Worth TX. 95% of boys in all grades wore Levis 501s
(the button front), at least in our school. One reason is that a local small department store mostly carried those .. in absolutely all sizes, kiddies to "rodeo clown" size.
When I graduated in 1962 it was the same. Lots and lots of the real cowboys did too.
(Note: at the time I lived 1.5 miles downwind from the largest stockyards in the world ..
but 1.25 miles downwind from the city dump, which was worse.)
