On the Zenith and RCA remote sets of the tube era the remote switch wouldn't disable the TV power, it would disable power to the remote reciever and make it so you could only turn the set on and off with the front panel power control...That may have changed in the solid state era, but I suspect it didn't as installing a kill switch for the entire set on the back seems pointless.
