Hi to all,
the Panasonic CT-101 1.5 inch CRT color TV and its Japanese domestic model TR-101CT (see Hello-Voltage's schematic here) :
http://www.videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=277193
all suffer from the same problem: the plastic case produced 1984 to 1987 had plasticizers and anti-fire retardants incorporated. 45 years later, the plastic has outgassed and become extremely brittle to the extent that a joke became popular among collectors: "take one look at a CT-101, and it breaks).
The chemical composition of the plastic used by Panasonic in this model has degraded over time and there is no going back. You cannot "rejuvenate" or restore flexibility to this 50 year old material.
@Richard_D: just trying to take apart a spotless 101 without breakage would be a feat.
Shipping is very risky for the same reason.
There are many of these sets out there which often work and are marred by variously broken cases.
In my opinion, if someone tackled the task of 3D printing a new case or proposed a ready-to-install Plexiglas case, there would be buyers for such an item.
Best Regards
