Hi to all,
Hi Mr.Duncan,

about rescueing flyback transformers, may i suggest you read the following thread. The tar in the flyback is dissolved by a (several day) bath in paint thinner, then coated with several coats of Marine-grade Spar varnish.
Many photos & step-by-step "how to do it".
The process was pioneered by ACORNVALVE, a much respected & experienced TV restorer. None of his processed flybacks have failed after treatment, even many years later.

Web site is ARF (Antique Radio Forums), TV subsection.

This guy builds & sells modern replacement "couplates" for Philco Predictas.
Couplates are passive R & C components assembled in a sort of primitive integrated circuit.

Finally, beware of cooked tube sockets, especially power tubes. Predicta cabinets are badly ventilated, internal temperature can be high and the cheap quality bakelite circuit boards can cook and become brittle.

Best Regards
