decodes the 5-band resistor as 1.02 ohms +/-4%, which makes no sense to me.

Where did this batch of parts come from? Kind of seems like someone's bench sweepings unless someone can tell us what the 5-band device really is.
It came in a plastic bag from Robert E Priebe Company Wholesale Electronic Distributor along with ohmite 470 ohm 3W resistor. Since all the other parts were Zenith, I figured it was some kind of Zenith "fix" for one of their TVs or radios. I tried looking it up, but band 5 was not helpful. Someone said it was probably a marking for military grading or such.
