I thought there might some wierdnesses going on, You should not have to do a complete IF realignment. I suspected broken grounds. Many times you can just resolder the board and that fixes it. Another thing I thought of was perhaps whiskers growing in your IF cans. I know there is at least one IF can from the schematic you sent me. And then there is the problem of carbon resistors going off value due to its age. I'd replace them with metal film.
