I remember those setups. Also, I have an RCA DTC-100 HDTV tuner with the 169time Firewire port(s) on it but I never tried anything with it.
The "computer in between" was a box that 169time called an "AVX-1" if I remember right. It was required to record satellite-based programming from the modified tuner. But, the port(s) on the tuner could be used directly for over-the-air recording without the AVX-1 attached.
Does DirecTV still have any HD content receivable by these tuners?
