Most tubes went to a straight-gun design when the aluminized versions were produced. An ion trap should not be used with these, but there could be an exception. Examine the rear of the gun assembly to see if part of it is bent. If it is, it requires an ion trap magnet. Compare the gun with one not using a magnet, and you should be able to see if they are the same.
In the 60's, I discarded many ion trap magnets after replacing CRTs with aluminized versions. If the tube requires an ion trap magnet, you will not get a raster if it is removed.
