Step Two: clean the socket
Now that you have the socket off, you will see some nasty dried up looking crap. This is the old glue that has failed to keep the socket on the crt.
This will need to be chipped off, and the socket cleaned and prepped for new epoxy.
I used a small flatblade screw driver to get off the big chunks.
I then used my dremel with a wire brush attachment to get the rest of the inside of the socket base smooth.
Last of all I wiped the area down with some Isopropryol alcohol to make sure the surface was clean. This way the glue will easily adhere to the socket. Keep in mind that you will not get it perfect. There will always be some piece of crap that is still stuck to the socket -- laughing in your face.
