I am leaning toward the idea of it being a Guild hi-fi console. I think I remember seeing one like this! The speaker holes would make sense. I'd maybe repost this in the antique radio thread, and ask "Is this a Guild cabinet?"

Guild made some really neat sets in the 50s and 60s; one that looked like an antique oak wall telephone, one that was a grand piano, a rolltop desk, and even a kitchen spice rack. They were very high quality cabinets. I also saw a Guild TV that was in a cabinet like this, and I think it was a companion to this HiFi cabinet, if my theory is right.
