I'm here ... just been super busy ...
Hi all! I've been working on several customers' projects to the point of working 6 days 12 hours in the shop. I just finished a massive restoration of a Dumone RA-109 complete with a replacement 19AP4. Unfortunately, the original rebuildable dud CRT was cracked by UPS and rendered useless. I'm still waiting for word on the insurance claim.
I ran into an interesting animal with this Dumont. When I got it put back together, I had this bizarre "blinking eye" effect with the vertical sweep as the V. Size control was turned up to get the picture to fill the mask. After the height reached about 2" less than the mask height, the picture would start collapsing to a line and re-expanded at about 1 Hz. Everything in the circuit checked out fine. I tried THREE brand-new (Chinese) 6SN7GT's ... same problem. Eventually, I subbed one of my more expensive NOS American 6SN7GT's ... BINGO. Watch out for those cheap imported tubes ... you get what you pay for.
Here's the screenshot from the Dumont with the 5AXP4 test CRT.
I also painted the house and garage trim and had some legal issues with Jan's estate. Eventually, I got the family's permission to get the car titled to me since I was co-signer and responsible for the loan. I've also been trying to enjoy a little nightlife and even went out on a few blind dates. Not my idea of fun, but you know how friends love matchmaking.
